Day 2: first day of riding

74 km
959 m ascent
Top speed: 56.84 km

We set out from Campbell River this morning glorious sunny day 18°. Dave took the first leg of driving the Tacoma. Will is our camp manager and he is driving the RV. The six of us took off riding and it was stunning. We did some gravel road and some awesome single track in a cedar forest. Some of the short loops were of dubious provenance, in terms of whether we should’ve been on the roads.

We were within reach of camp when Suneet popped a flat tire and then five minutes later, she popped another flat tire. Wow. Rob was changing out her tire when the heavens opened up and an absolute deluge soaked us to our spines with rain. Three of us went into camp to get the Tacoma to rescue Suneet because there seemed to be a significant problem with her tire, but Rob got things sorted and they rode in. Truly torrential rainforest style downpour.

We’re now in dry clothes, drinking tea, hot soup already in and we ARE HAVING BURGERS FOR dinner!!!!!
