A view of the Rio Pita Canal Route

Early start to get out to Cotopaxi national park where we were to do our first acclimatization hike. The drive was ‘special’ and took about 2 hours – was pretty sure we left some of the bottom of the vehicle in a few places. Road was cobbled (with holes and gaps) so we were unable to get to the planned trail head

So we pivoted – for a longer hike, greater ascent –

Hike time: 6 hours
Total ascent: 1000m
Distance: 16 km

Everyone safe up and down, a few slips on the descent but everyone is intact. OUR FIRST PEAK!!!!

We found an awesome burger/microbrewery for dinner – and ONLY 60 feet from the hotel (we have done enough walking for one day) YAY!
