Day 7: rocks, relics, and remote refreshments
Distance: 87.4 km
Ascent: 1,406 m
Day 6 started with the group splitting up. Suneet and Heather took the Tacoma into Port Hardy to get Suneet’s finger x-rayed (see photo… it’s broken), while the rest of us saddled up and hit the road.
The morning teased us with beautiful tarmac. It didn’t last. Soon we were back on gravel, and some stretches of rough rock claimed another tube. Perry picked up a flat, his second of the trip.
We rode in tight formation into Coal Harbour, where the RV was waiting with fuel and snacks. The stop came with an unexpected bonus. We saw an incredible museum run by a local named Joel Eilertsen, known as the RCAF museum. Originally built as a hangar for the Air Force, it now houses relics of the region’s forestry and whaling history.
Back on the bikes, we made our way to the Scarlet Ibis Pub, our home for the night. Cabins for a change! We were greeted by an amazing patio and a fantastic view at what has to be the most remote pub around.

BOOO to the broken finger.
I’m giggling here about the tree fallen on car and the sign that reads “be prepared for the unexpected” GOODNESS ME!
