Day 8: Okay, to Otematata
We got geared up with our bikes for this next section. Today had 4 legs to it. Seat height, lunch packed, sunblock and hydration.
Hot and dry, thankfully a bit overcast.
Straight out of the gates it was up and up-659m ascent in the first leg. Loose rock, some technical sections and a lot of up.
Then 495m down again on loose gravel, tight turns had to keep that right hand on the rear disc brakes.
Leg 2 almost all descent about 360m. But there was a long stretch of washboard road, teeth chattering, bum breaking washboard.
We pulled into Omara and stopped at a shearing place to grab some food, and restock the fluids!
Leg 3 was glorious – gentle up and down all along a gorgeous lake.
Then the team split with Tim, Farid and Perry taking the more adventurous route (adding an additional 482m!!!!!!). Suneet, Barry, Dale and I doing more of a straight shot. Our last leg had a 132m ascent and then descent all the way into Otematata. The rooms are right beside the pub/restaurant so easy decision tonight for dinner.

Looks like a tough day on the bikes! Those climbs and rough roads sound brutal, but it must’ve been nice to have some beautiful views and a good meal to finish. Keep going!!
Thank you so much!
When you’re at the pub, make sure to hoist a Lakeman’s craft ale.
We will!
Cheers to a well earned drink! What a day.

Thank you!
That’s a lot of up and downs!! What’s everyone pointing at in the first photo? Admiring the ascent?
