Day 16: epilogue
I can’t believe TYL #12 is a wrap.
We are back in Squamish. We choppered out from the Haberl Hut with some urgency this morning as weather was rapidly closing in (we just squeaked by before potentially being rained in… which would have meant a 6 hr hike out).
Our tree to sea to sky epic journey has come to a close. I really want to thank my teammates as always, for having my back, for having an exquisite sense of humour, and for having a brilliant sense of adventure… they make the trip possible. Every time I hit the road with Dave, I see his sense of wonder in the way he looks at the world. And every time I hit the road with Dale, I see and feel his sense of peace. Both of them teach me to be a better person and I am oh so very grateful for that opportunity.
Huge thanks to Yamnuska for putting this ridiculously awesome trip together – if you want an adventure, there is no better guiding team around. As always, it is an honour and magical thing to be on the rope with Barry Blanchard O.C. Tim Ricci has a never-ending source of adrenaline, energy, and optimism that makes you feel that anything is possible, and that you are “crushing it” as you achieved an objective.
Huge thanks as always to IWD for his ongoing support of testyourlimits. Many thanks to Shauna, Claudia, and Rio for making the back end of the blog work.
This is the 20th anniversary of the TYL program and the 12th adventure. We don’t test our limits to prove they’re there, we test them to discover they were never quite where we thought, and to stand with the patients whose courage continues to inspire this journey. Thanks to everyone who has come along this journey with us. We have had the chance to test our limits all over the world, raising awareness for heart health and organ donation and fundraising for heart failure research. Remember your life is worth one hour a day. Give your heart that hour, and it will give you back years. It really matters.
